What the Heck is a Zhu Zhu Pets Hamster

I was honestly a little creeped out the first time I heard of about the Zhu Zhu Pets Hamster line.  The idea of an AI (Artificial Intelligence) hamster didn't quite sit right with me--maybe because I got worried about my cats choking on a spring.  But apparently they're all the rage this year (and probably will be next year, too).

First off, this isn't some mass-bred hamster eugenicised for intelligence and slapped with some good (well, effective) marketing.  Nope, these guys are little mechanical pseudo-hamsters that let your kids bask in the joy of having pet hamsters without letting you have the fun of cleaning up all the messes, looking in the pantry for lost rodents, or explaning why Fluffy the cat wanted to kill you little one's new best friend.

In a way, these little guys are a direct descendant of the Furbie.  They run around and interact with their environment (and each other) in an, well, interactive sort of way.  They can each be switched between different modes--Loving mode and Explorer mode--to either run all over the place or else sit in your kids' hands and gurgle and coo.

The marketing copy says that they each Zhu Zhu Pet responds to its environment "according to its mode and personality."  Yes, they make'em with personalities.  What kind of personalities to they have?  Well, there are four:

Num Nums is the cuddly one who loves to "cuddle and snack".  What he snacks on, I'm not so sure.  But he sounds like the perfect hamster for your little nurturer, or anybody who wants the ultimate in cute (that doesn't leave little pellets laying around).

Pipsqueak is a little yellow guy with a "go get'em" attitude.  He's the electronic hamster version of the little boy who likes to go out and play in the mud.

All I know about Squiggles (I don't own one of this kind) is that he is supposed to have a "been there, done that" attitude.  I guess he is pretty relaxed.  Maybe he speaks French.

Chunk is the "easy-going surfer" Zhu Zhu who likes to "lay back and hang out".  I don't know what that means, either.  But it sounds like he helps keep the kids out of trouble.

As you might imagine, Cepia LLC also makes several Hamster Habitats for the little guys.  You can buy running wheel, slide, running ball--even a little car!  Each one of the pets interacts with the environment in his own way.  Maybe you'll want to keep little Pipsqueek out of the Zhu Zhu Hamster car, y'know?

Ever wondered what you can get your child for his or her birthday but find every toy very common? Or is your child been bugging you around to get a pet but you are afraid that pet hairs will be bad for his or her health? Now you have new gift options for your kid called Zhu Zhu pets. (Pronounced Zoo Zoo Pets BTW.)

I wondered about these toys the first time I heard about Zhu zhu pets. Now I know that they are plush toys that resemble real life hamsters. These plush toys are very interactive that my child really loves playing with.

When I brought the very first Zhu Zhu pet for my son, he started to play with it at once. He was so amazed when the Zhu zhu pet reacted to him when he pet it. It is because it is set to its nurture mode.

He got more excited when we turned it to its explore mode. It started to run all over the place. He then told me that we should get its own house and its own play items. He did not stop requesting for a new accessory for it so I finally gave in and got it a play pen where it started to run around like what regular hamsters do.

The good thing about these pets is that they are really like the live hamster pets without the hassle of maintenance. Maintenance in the sense that you have to clean their cages or feed them. With this, what you just need to do is to play with it just like what my son is always doing. I only have one problem with I -- that is that my son is always requesting for a new set of battery for it since he cannot stop playing with these plush toys.

The main reason why these toys are very much interactive is that they are made with artificial intelligence. With this, they are able to react on their habitat and even react on the way on you play with them.

These pets have different personalities for you to choose from. Aside from playing with them, they also have an option to dress them up that will fit the occasion. For example, they can set it up for the Halloween or Christmas. At the same time, your child can also bring the Zhu Zhu pets trick-or-treating with their costumes. Your kid will definitely catch the attention of his or her classmates with these cute toys in costumes.

I found out that Zhu zhu pets are available in various stores online and at malls. I saved money from buying these toys instead of a live hamster. It saves me from the trouble of buying food for it or bringing it to its monthly veterinarian check up. My kid loves it, I do too!.

Virtual pets are perennial favorites during holiday gift season. Children love receiving an animal they can play with, love and take care of. Parents love the fact that these virtual pets do not have to be fed, taken out walks, or cleaned  up on a regular basis. The popular pets this year are the Zhu Zhu Pet Hamsters. In fact, these are poised to be the biggest toys of the 2009 holiday season.

These toys are similar to real hamsters and that they squeak, play, and move around. In fact, they're very similar to real hamsters except for the smell and the cleanup duties. They have two modes, a mode called nurturing where the happy hamsters purr, and a mode where the hamsters explore the environment and react to stimuli, called the adventure mode.

Check out the Zhu Zhu Hamster

And, like real hamsters they enjoy accessories. There are many accessories that make these  hamsters even more fun to play with, like a hamster wheel, a fun house, even a hamster car, admittedly something not usually accessable for real hamsters.

Another reason these toys will be popular is the fact that the hamsters are relatively inexpensive, for intereractive toys. The basic hamster can retail for as little as $10, and the accessories are slightly more. With economic frugality still the watchword, these Zhu Zhu pet hamsters are a popular choice.

While finding these hamsters are hit and miss at traditional stores, and may continue to be hard to find as the holiday season gets closer. they are also available at online venues such as Amazon and Ebay. If you are interested in snatching a Zhu Zhu pet hamster up for the holiday season, earlier is better.
